Version 7 represents the most comprehensive upgrade to MaxIm DL since Version 1.
The performance of the software has been greatly accelerated by transitioning to a 64-bit architecture. This includes both the execution speed and memory handling capabilities. This is a particular benefit when handling the very large images generated by many modern cameras.
The most visible change is the revamped and modernized user interface. The entire application now works in "Dark Mode", which not only provides a cleaner modern look but also provides significant night vision benefits when operating in low-light environments. Navigation is made easier and faster thanks to a new Ribbon Bar design, eliminating fussy menus and toolbars and making access to functions faster and easier. A small toolbar at top right provides continuous access to undo, redo, and zoom functions. The user interface for many commands has been streamlined and simplified, while retaining full functionality. In order to ease the transition from Version 6, the camera and observatory control funcitonality retains the existing organization, while adding functionality and improving user interface controls.
There have also been many minor improvements throughout the software, ranging from a new ASCOM switch control, improvements to settings, narrowband blend, extract planes, autosave setup, better image previews, and much more.
